Conveyor Belt

Part of the Conveyor Belt from a Threshing Mill
C19th, tin, steel, leather; the canvas belt 3" wide

from Rusness, Sanday

The Threshing mill was invented in 1786 by Scottish engineer Andrew Meikle. The mill replaced intensive work usually done by women: threshing, shaking and winnowing to separate the wheat from the chaff.
