Although some still exist in the outbuildings of Sanday, by the end of the C19th small mills like the one that this came from were made redundant by the arrival of the steam driven travelling mill.

" The travelling mill was driven by John Moat from one farm to another and small crofts got what crop they held thrashed at the various stops. Mr Moat was a big, strong, jolly man much liked wherever he went. Having been brought up at the farm of Stove he knew everybody ".
