Arriving at Stove 1999, the stables at the back of the house were very dilapidated but hacking through the nettles it was possible to pull away the ivy and prise open the doors of the buildings. One had been used by John Scott as a workshop with an old painted cart propped in the corner. Next to it a larger cobbled space still contained the stalls for 3 large working horses with head collars hanging from steel hooks nailed to the upright beams. This one housed a dusty blackbird's nest. Heavy work horses would not have been used at Stove since the Model Farm fell empty during World War One.
